After a guy at Dangerfield complimented my 6 year old on her awesome taste in music a week ago, I decided that this playlist should be constructed purely with songs that my Beatrix loves. Some are old favourites from her toddler days, others are new anthems, but all are chosen by her. (Trust me, I’d never willingly make a child like MGMT.) Onward!
PLAYLIST: The Dirty South.
I may be Australian as all get-out, but I am American by bloodline (‘Bama represent), by stomach capacity and most importantly, by ear. The South is home to some of the best food, babes and musical genres in existence.

PLAYLIST: Music to be a stripper to.
My friend T and I like checking out strip joints in our city. By now, we pretty much know which are the good ones, which are the tacky ones (the best, really), and which are the “high-class” ones. And we always end up talking to the strippers about the profession, and of course, end up idealising it as a way to make mega dollars and be super coordinated with the sexy. “Yeah! I’m gonna grow out my hair and get extensions and I’m gonna have a ROUTINE to this song!”
Of course, I’d probably never (never say never) actually become a stripper. But I think everyone needs to find their own stripper song, if for no other reason than it’s awesome when you’re really drunk at a party and it comes on and you can scream “GIRL THIS MY SONG” and really embarrass yourself when the photos surface the next day on Facebook. Here are some of my picks for what could work for me in a variety of categories. Hopefully this inspires you to find your own booty-shakin’ skank song. Boys too. IT’S IN ALL OF YOU.
PLAYLIST: Shake Your Money Maker.
After getting a pretty good email response from my exposing my musical taste, favourite artists and running playlist a few days ago, I decided that I should do something else. It’s obviously no secret that I love hip-hop. I have since I was 4 years old (80’s baby, hello) and I probably always will, to some degree. And generally, besides the old school stuff, I like sort of indie/alternative hipster hip-hop. I’ll be the first to admit it.
I do however, have large grand fantasies of driving around Atlanta in my bandana in a black Jeep Wrangler/Cadillac Escalade pumping out the following numbers. (I would probably be killed in the first 30 seconds.) I have included YouTube links for your enjoyment/nostalgia. They are great for stacking your dishwasher to, dancing in your shower to, and of course, driving your SUV to. I’ve thrown some other less “mainstream” shit in there too, just for good measure. Just stop giving a fuck, people.
